SECONDARY GLAZING

Owners of listed buildings and buildings in conservation areas are often constrained by the materials that can be used on the exterior of their building. uPVC replacement windows are not always an option in these cases.

Secondary glazing allows some of the benefits of having double glazing without changing the external appearance of the window. For example, added security, energy efficiency and noise reduction.

Secondary glazing lies inside the building and is fixed to the internal face of the window, or the window reveal. This extra layer of single glazing makes the whole window become effectively double glazed. The internal glazing can be opened to allow ventillation by various methods including sliding, hinged or lift-out glass. Vertical sliders can be used for sash windows.

The internal appearance of the secondary glazing is discrete as sections of glazing are designed to fit in with the style of the window. The frame is made of aluminium, creating slender discrete sections. As with all aluminium frames there is a choice of colours and an option of thicker glass for noise control.
